Carter Conboy Attorneys Speak on Ethics for the Federation of Bar Associations

On October 20, 2017, Carter Conboy attorneys, Michael J. Catalfimo, Mackenzie C. Monaco and Thomas A. Capezza were featured speakers on the topic “Ethics in Action” at the Federation of Bar Association’s one-day seminar in Lake Placid, NY.
The CLE was presented in an interactive fact-pattern format. It included both roundtable and panel discussions relating to ethical issues facing in-house counsel, ‘duties to the truth’ and ‘duties to report’ under the Rules of Professional Conduct, privileged communications, unauthorized practice of law, and ethical conflicts versus business conflicts.
Michael J. Catalfimo is a Managing Director of Carter Conboy and serves as the Firm’s Chief Operating Officer. He practices in the fields of creditors’ rights, business and property law, family law and general civil litigation. Mr. Catalfimo is an active member of numerous professional associations, including the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Business Litigation Practice Group of ALFA International (ALFA), and the American Legal and Financial Network (ALFN), where he serves as Chairman of the ALFN’s Board of Directors. He is a past president of the Washington County Bar Association and the Federation of Bar Associations of the Fourth Judicial District, a former adjunct professor of business law at Skidmore College, and a frequent lecturer on topics related to creditors rights and real property law and litigation.
Mackenzie C. Monaco is a Director and Shareholder at Carter Conboy. She is a litigator representing individuals, businesses and professionals in the fields of personal and premises liability, professional liability, product liability, construction law, and environmental law. She has achieved successful results for her clients at the trial and appellate levels and has extensive experience in motion practice. Ms. Monaco is a cum laude graduate of St. Lawrence University and a summa cum laude graduate of Albany Law School. She is an appointed member of the Committee on Character and Fitness for the New York State Supreme Court for the Third Judicial District, is the Vice-President of the Capital District Trial Lawyers Association, and is a frequent speaker on topics related to the defense of civil litigation matters. Thomas A. Capezza is a Director at Carter Conboy. He practices in the areas of White Collar Litigation and Investigations, Corporate Governance and Investigations, Technology, Cybercrime and eDiscovery, and Civil Rights and Governmental Law. He has nearly 20 years of criminal and civil investigatory and litigation experience, including eight years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney with the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Northern District of New York; three years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney with the Civil Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of Michigan; three years as Enforcement Counsel with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission; and four years as an Assistant District Attorney with the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
