For the third year, Carter Conboy is a ‘Hall of Fame’ corporate sponsor of the American Cancer Society’s ‘Coaches vs. Cancer’ event, held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Troy, NY on November 2, 2011. The event’s honoree is St. John’s University Men’s Basketball Coach, Steve Lavin, who will receive the “Fighting Spirit Award” after his brave fight against cancer and his commitment to the ‘Coaches’ initiative. The firm’s Administrator, Stacy A. Smith, is an Honorary Committee member and Chair of the event’s Silent Auction Committee.
The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.
The ‘Coaches vs. Cancer’ initiative is a nationwide collaboration between ACS and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The initiative leverages the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of basketball coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness efforts, fundraising activities, and advocacy programs. The Capital Region division of Coaches vs. Cancer is led by the University of Albany Men’s Basketball coach, Will Brown, and Siena College’s Men’s Basketball coach, Mitch Buonaguro.
